In military and government organisations it is essential, for security reasons, to repair equipment locally rather than overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Severe problems result from a lack of product documentation. These adversely affect all parts of the support operation including<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Field maintenance &#8211;\u00a0less efficient field engineers<\/li>\n<li>Workshop repair &#8211;\u00a0more scrap and longer repair time<\/li>\n<li>Logistics support &#8211;\u00a0increased levels of spares inventory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is the problem of\u00a0&#8220;legacy&#8221;\u00a0equipment where the original supplier no longer exists or is unable to provide support or spares.
